How To Test Thyristor Module

How To Test Thyristor Module

* How to test a Pair of SCR Module with 12v Bulb  and 12v Transformer

To test if  thyristor modules are in good condition I advice you to test them with a 12v bulb and a 12v battery. It is simple and effective, no complex things. I normally buy my SCRs as salvaged parts from old equipments. In my location, there are people who scavenge for industrial machines from companies. They disassemble the devices and sell the parts. Whenever I want to shop for parts from these stockists, I normally go with a 12v or 9v battery and a bulb for physical testing before paying for them. I also test IGBTs modules same way.

If you want to test a pair of SCR module (example SKKH162/16E) for rectification, bring them together and join them as in the picture below.

Use the schematic below to test it.

The button can just be touching the one end of the gate connection wire. You don't necessarily need a switch in through sense but the switch here is to indicates that the gate voltage is the last to apply after every connection are in place.

Use the diagram below to test SCR single module with 12v bulb and 12v battery.

This is how to test SCR or thyristor modules. Compare testing IGBT Modules.
